Testimonials

" Welcome to my website "

I am a professional and friendly traditional maker, repairer and restorer of violins, violas, cellos and bows. I was trained at the world renowned Newark School of Violin Making (nsvm) and I am fully qualified in string instrument making and repair.

I am a holder of the coveted J & A Beare Diploma - which was uniquely awarded for the making of only my second violin (it would be normal to have made ten plus before attempting the two-hundred hour examination) ... an indication of natural ability, methodical attention to detail and a profound understanding of Stradivari's methods, style and processes.

I am also an approved repairer for Allianz Musical Insurance and former Treasurer of the British Violin Makers Association (BVMA).

I specialise in instrument set up and tonal adjustment, and can make your instrument easier to play while releasing its potential sound, employing traditional methods and modern acoustic measurement techniques.

I make instruments solely by hand at the bench, using only the traditional techniques of the old Italian Cremonese masters ... no electricity or power tools ... and by candlelight when required.

I give advice openly, honestly and freely and I am totally committed to providing my customers with the highest quality service and care. I believe the relationship between the player and the luthier is very much a partnership, based on trust, sharing the same common goal. In this respect, players of all abilities, ages and backgrounds are welcome in my workshops.

I currently have workshops in two locations: in a woodland setting near Mold, North Wales, and at the Bluecoat Art Centre in the Cultural Quarter of Liverpool.

From here, I provide services to professional, nonprofessional, student and novice players across North Wales, Cheshire, Merseyside and Wirral, Greater Manchester, the North West, Shropshire and the West Midlands region of England and beyond.

Approved repairer for Allianz Insurance; J & A Beare and NSVM Certified; Former Treasurer of the BVMA (British Violin Makers Association)
